 Getting Your Licence
How to apply for your provisional licence
If you have never held a driving licence before, you must apply for a provisional licence. You need to obtain a form D1. This form is available from most post offices or via the DVLA website. You will need to enclose original documentation confirming your identity and a passport sized colour photograph taken against a plain light background, it may take up to three weeks to get your provisional licence returned.
Changing your licence when you pass your test
Once you have passed your theory and practical tests, exchange your test pass certificate for a new licence as soon as possible. If you do not do this within 2 years of passing your test, you will have to retake and pass both theory and practical tests.

You can download forms from the DVLA web site at www.dvla.gov.uk

You can also now apply online for your first provisional driving licence at https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence
